I am blogging on behalf of BlogPaws Pet Blogger Network and the AKC. I received compensation for my time from the AKC for sharing my views in this post, but the views expressed here are solely mine.
Things were starting to get a little out of control at my house. Not so much serious problems, but all of them combined were starting to take a toll. Plus, with 7 dogs (6 of them large) it was becoming a quite chaotic. If you can imagine 7 dogs, with 6 of them weighing 65-80 pounds, all jumping and going crazy at the same time! Well,I told you about the problems I was having in my last post and how I was talking with the AKC GoodDog! HelplineSM for tips on solving these bad dog behaviors.
Brandi and Ozzy (the puppies) resting quitely!
I spent quite a while on the phone with the trainer from the AKC GoodDog! Helpline SM. She gave me suggestions to try for each issue. After talking with her, I felt that I could work on all the issues at the same time as each one was unrelated to the other. She agreed with this and also noted she thought I was having boredom issues. With most of them being German Shepherd/Lab mixes, she felt they needed more exercise than what they were getting. She also told me she felt this would solve part of the problems, especially the chewing from the younger ones.

Since then, we have been putting the suggestions into play. We have made progress on the jumping, leash pulling and chewing. They have also had their play time increased. Her suggestions were spot on! We are still a work in progress, but very much improved. As for Seager’s territorial issues, it is going to take some time. Maybe his before life was so bad and now that he has it made, he is guarding it with everything he has! I can’t really blame him, but it is an issue we have to work on and fix. I can see that we will definitely be calling often!
I have to admit, when I called the AKC GoodDog! HelplineSM, I was the one unorganized! I have so many different issues going on, I didn’t know where to start. The trainer was patient and spoke with me as if she had all day. We started with one issue and worked our way through each one, with her giving suggestions on each one. It was like calling up a friend for an afternoon chat! She was wonderful!

I think that the AKC is truly a great and wonderful organization. Ever since I went to dog shows when I was a kid, they have been wonderful in all sorts of ways.
