My Lady reminded us the other day that Dad's special day was coming up soon and even penciled it in on our pet schedule dry erase board. That got all of us pups thinking that we needed to make our human dad something just for him. We thought of the perfect thing - a DIY Paw Print Catchall Dish!
You see, every day when our dad comes home from work, he empties his pockets on the end of the dresser.
Have y'all ever seen the pile of stuff dads carry in their pockets?
It's a wonder they don't need one of those bags like my Lady totes around! WOOF!
That's when we got the idea of a DIY Paw Print Catchall Dish for his keys, coins, and wallet!
He could put all his 'stuff' in there and be reminded of us furry kids at the same time!
It was fun and easy to make, just take a look below!
And, if you want another fun gift for Dad or Mom, be sure and take a look at our fun DIY Dog Bone Picture Frame!

How to make this cute DIY Paw Print Catchall Dish
Supplies needed:

Clay (I used an air dry clay that doesn't require baking)
Shallow bowl - to use as a mold
Sandpaper - I used a 200
Toothpick
Spray paint
optional: rolling pin, butter knife
How to make this fun Paw Print Catchall Dish:

Start by kneading your clay so it is room temperature and easier to work with.
I used about a ¼ of what came in the package, which measured out to be about a ½ cup.
But if you take too much at first, you can always put it back in a resealable bag with the rest of the unused clay.

Roll it out so it is about ¼ inch thick all the way around.

Place your dog's paw in the middle of the rolled out clay and press down firmly (if they'll let you).
This took two tries!

Once you have a paw print you are happy with, place your bowl face down over the center of the paw print and press down to cut the clay.

When you lift up you should have a circular clay cut out with the paw print in the center.

Take the circular clay cut out and place it in the middle of the bowl and gently press down to shape your dish, using the bowl as your mold.

Then take your toothpick and carve out the saying you wish to have on your dish.
You will end up using sandpaper to smooth everything out, so don't worry too much if the letter carving makes the dish look bad at first.
This clay said to let dry for 24 hours, so I left it in the bowl for 24 hours.

After it is dry, remove it from the bowl and use the sandpaper to gently sand the edges of the bowl and over the letters to smooth it all out.
I had to take the toothpick again and go over the letters to remove any dust that got caught from the sanding.

Once that is done, spray paint away. I did two coats.

It dries pretty quickly, and it's ready to use!

My human children made these when they were little kids. I can't find any article that is about anything except animals. I don't have any.

The Pawprint Catchall Dish is a very clever idea!! My hubby would love it, especially since it would be homemade! The kids bought him a man's valet years ago for his keys, coins, & other stuff. But honestly, I don't know what happened to it. I pinned it for the grandkids to make for their dads or grandpas.

I so wanted to do something like this for our garden, but our dogs wouldn't have it! They don't like having their paws messed with. I have tried over 5 times so far and all attempts failed (so sad).
Molly says
It is hard if they don't like their paws messed with. It took me 2 tries to get and that is with a dog that doesn't mind 🙂

We are huge dog fans and this would be a great gift for my hubby. My teen would love to make this for him!
