As you can imagine, having 9 dogs is not for the faint of heart whether it be taking care of them OR cleaning up after them. When I say working smarter, it means I have come up with some handy ways of handling the messes so they don’t consume my entire day!

5 Tips for Keeping Your Floors Clean with Dogs

Regular Brushing
Dogs are going to shed. There is just no way around it. However, you can keep control of those tumbleweeds of fur floating across your floor with regular grooming. Frequent baths and brushing can go a long way. I suggest brushing at a minimum of 3 times a week or I find it easy to carry a brush around with me outside each day and just give them quick brushes while we are having together time. Then, once or twice a week give them a thorough brushing.

Toweling them Down
I keep a towel hanging by the door so that I can towel them down before entering. They may not look dirty, but take my word for it – they are! If your dogs are anything like mine, they will roll in the dirt and dust and bring it right in the door with them to deposit it on your floor and furniture.

Cleaning Their Feet at the Door
Cleaning their feet at the door is a must especially in the rainy, muddy season. But, I also know however much you clean muddy feet you can never get all the mud from between those hairy toes!

Vacuuming Regularly
Even though we aren’t discussing carpet today, I still vacuum my hardwood and other floors. This keeps the hair from flying up and landing somewhere else. And, keeping control of the hair and dirt in your home with frequent vacuuming is better than waiting for it to build up. You can make quick swipes through instead of spending a monster day of trying to get it all up!

Mopping Frequently
There is nothing like looking across your floor and seeing muddy paw prints and/or drool spots. Yes! I said drool spots from where they have been laying.
