Spring is finally here and we are gettin’ lots more outside time. We love bein’ able to run and play. My Lady calls it exercisin’, but we just think we’re havin’ fun! We packed on some pounds layin’ up in the house over the winter and she says for pet weight loss, we need lots of that stuff called exercise, nutritious food and a plan to help us get back in shape. It’s all good to me! I like runnin’, wrestlin’ and playin’ and ain’t turnin’ down no good food either! She also says consistency is the key. Say what? I don’t know what that big word means, so I better get her to tell ya ’bout it.
Miss Molly is getting her workout in and sticking with her plan!
Here’s my Lady to tell ya ’bout Pet Weight Loss and why Consistency is the Key
Did you know that more than 50% of pets are overweight? Wow! That means half the pets out there are overweight! Us pet parents know that it is important that our pets are at a healthy weight because much like humans, a healthy weight adds to their quality of life and life expectancy. But, how to get the weight off becomes the question. You have to keep in mind that pet weight loss is a marathon not a sprint! Remember, it took your dog or cat quite a long time to get all that girth, so it’s not going to just fall off of them. Consistency, patience, and a good dog food for weight loss like Hill’s® Science Diet® Perfect Weight is what you need in the process of getting your dog or cat back to their perfect weight.
All the pups enjoy daily, or even twice daily, runs! It’s the Shepherds favorite activity!
You may have read my post about Hill’s Science Diet Perfect Weight. I think it is great because 70% of cats and dogs who used the Science Diet Perfect Weight lost weight within 10 weeks! Pet Weight Loss – Slow and Steady Wins the Race
We also have to remember that packing on the pounds is much easier than getting them off for us AND for our pets. It’s important to remember that while you’re impatiently waiting for the weight to melt off your pet. That’s just not going to happen. You need a plan, a goal, and an approach that will guarantee success. Exercise is important and so is what, when and how much you feed them.
Hill’s Science Diet Adult Perfect Weight dog and Adult Perfect Weight cat foods are perfect for overweight pets. Combined along with the Hill’s 10 Week Turnaround calendar, they can help you achieve your pet weight loss goals. Their food is specially designed to promote a slow, steady weight reduction in dogs and cats, and their calendar helps you track the food intake and weight loss progress of your dog and cat.

Consistency is Key
When it comes to dog weight loss or cat weight loss, either one, consistency is key! You need to establish a routine for everything from the time of day you feed to the amount you feed. Your dog or cat needs to know exactly what to expect to limit that panic that some of them get when you start reducing their food.
Pet Weight Loss Tips and Tricks:
- Download the 10 Week Turnaround Calendar to keep track of feed and pet weight loss.
- Start out by feeding your pet the recommended amount on the bag, adjusting as needed. Remember, all dogs have different caloric requirements and activity levels.
- Feed your pet a specific amount at a specific time. If you can’t be there, have a friend of relative do it for you.
- Use measuring cups. 1 cup means an actual measured cup, not an eyeballed amount. I used to be guilty of this.
- Be consistent in everything you do, from feeding to going potty.
- If you’re training your dog, or if it has been trained to get treats for performing certain actions, substitute green beans or bell peppers for dog treats. They have almost no calories, and most dogs love them. If you do use traditional treats, remember to subtract the calories from their daily intake.
- Always remember, pet weight loss is a marathon. It WILL take time.
Pet weight loss can be both daunting and frustrating if you don’t approach it with the proper tools and the proper mindset. Hills Science Diet Adult Perfect Weight dog food and cat foods from Hill’s Pet, along with their 10 Week Turnaround calendar are great tools to help you get your dog or cat back to the weight the used to be.

This is a great article. My parents inherited an overweight dog from my grandpa and they’ve been struggling to get him back to normal range. I’m definitely forwarding your post onto my mom. Thanks!
I love this about pet weight lose. I make sure my baby weight stay where it should
I have a cat I rescued when she was just a few weeks old. I had her for almost 4 years when she started getting fat on me. My daughter told me to put her on a diet because cats are prone to getting diabetes. She got me this food to use and my cat is sleek and trim now. This stuff is really good.
This is some great information about pet weight loss. Thanks
Aww, Miss Molly is such a little pork chop! Cute, but yes, helping your pet maintain a healthy weight for their breed and size is very important for their health. Glad to see the pups all looking happy!
Hill’s science diet has really helped our pet lose weight. she is much healthier now!
Yes, weight loose is good for a healthy pet for sure.
I am thankful I do not have this problem with my cat!
I feel totally fortunate that my dog is so incredibly active and paces himself well with food. I know I need to keep an eye on it though and I should probably start measuring out his food. It’s a lot easier to keep them at a healthy weight than to get them there!
We are all about Science Diet for our older rescue cat Jezzy. We have had her since about 4 weeks old. Found her laying in a sunspot after a big flood. All by herself. Never did see any others but one time I thought she got out and brought her home and it was not our Jezzybelle. She looked exactly like this other cat. My mistake! When we had her fixed she got a belly and I changed her to a better diet. We are currently using Science Diet and she is at a great weight for her size. Great review! Thanks for sharing!

Great article. My exes dads dog was huge and it made me sad watching the poor dog struggle an she had arthritis and was in pain
Aww your puppy is adorable and I love the lost weight info
So far we do not have this problem. Great information to have.
It’s so important to keep track of your dog’s weight. My younger dog just turned 3 and she’s slowed down alot so we have to be more careful about how much she eats.
They are a lot like us in that it is a lot easier to put it on than it is to take it off. Have to be careful of portion size and exercise for them too.
im sitting dog for couple of month and then i love this he like it and need to loose more weigh
This works! my dog has lost 6 pounds this past year. TFS.
Luckily my dog is of a good weight, but I have seen a lot of overweight dogs.
Great post! My dog could definitely stand to lose a little weight!
I can’t believe more than half of pets are overweight. Sounds like the human population (myself included!). LOL! I’ve been lucky enough to have a self-food-regulating dog who’s very active. Great tips for when he gets older and slows down!
A proper diet and exercise is important to all creatures.
I learned from these reviews, that a couple of added pounds to our dogs/cats could be devastating to them! It’s not like us human’s gaining a couple of pounds – it is worse! Especially for an elderly dog like mine, who is already having a hard time getting up & walking. I would do anything to keep him around longer (15 years already). We have had to change his food throughout the years. Might be time for another change.
This is what I need! I notice that my peekaboo is gaining some weight and it is worrisome at 14 years old so I get him the weight watchers dog food and then he gets too skinny really quick so I am flipping and flopping between dog food.
A good dog food for weight loss like Hill’s® Science Diet® Perfect Weight

My sister’s dog is definitely overweight – she will eat anything and everything, thanks for these tips to make her healthier!
I am trying to have Coco lose weight. She has gained a few extra pounds. Been taking her for lots of walks and trying to get her to run around more. She is very lazy. But we are working on it!
