My sister Sallie has had itchy skin problems ever since I’ve known her. She itches and scratches like crazy even makin’ big ole sores on herself! She’s also the sister with the tummy troubles. I swear she has a lot of problems! A few week ago, I heard my Lady talkin’ about tryin’ some new dog food from Canine Caviar for Sallie. She sure was excited ’bout it and was a goin on ’bout it bein’ a grain-free dog food, gluten free and holistic.
She also said it was an alkaline based dog food. What in the world is that? It’s all over my head and I don’t have a clue what I’m a sayin’. I just eat what my Lady gives me and leave all that important talk to her. So, lemme fetch my Lady to tell ya about it. The way she’s been a goin’ on about it, I’m sure she’ll be happy to talk to ya!
Here’s what my Lady says about Canine Caviar Holistic Dog Food
Molly is telling the truth when she says that I was, and am, excited about Canine Caviar. I want to take the best possible care of my dogs. I want them to be as healthy as they can possibly be and live a long and happy life. I was especially excited for a chance to try the Canine Caviar holistic Wilderness Grain Free dog food for Sallie. Sallie has had so many skin issues, along with her sensitive stomach, that we had been discussing switching her to a grain-free gluten free food. After reading up on the Canine Caviar, I was very impressed with all the healthy and nutritious ingredients, so we were excited to let her make the switch!
What is Canine Caviar Holistic Dog Food?
Canine Caviar dog food is an easily digested formula that will quickly settle digestive upsets, reduce itching, scratching, shedding and hotspots. Definitely sounds like just what we need! Canine Caviar also has a proprietary blend that offers a fermentation culture, which provides a potent Pro biotic result once it is in the belly. In turn, this helps them absorb and use the nutrition offered.
Canine Caviar was established in 1996 with their number one concern being to make the best product possible while keeping it affordable. Their number ONE priority IS and always will BE nutition!
Canine Caviar Wilderness Grain Free Dog Food
Over the past few weeks Sallie has been enjoying the Canine Caviar Wilderness Grain Free Dinner. The very first ingredient of the Wilderness Grain Free Dinner is venison followed by split pea. Most important, is what it doesn’t have! It DOES NOT CONTAIN wheat, potato or tapioca, ethoxyquin, no added hormones, gluten or GMO and no meat or poultry by-products.
Canine Caviar is a unique food in that it is Alkaline Based. This is important because our cell enzymes, and our pets, work best in a slightly alkaline environment. When switching to Canine Caviar it is different than switching most foods. There is no gradual working your way into it. With Canine Caviar, you jump right in cold turkey with the switch. Canine Caviar has a higher caloric content than other foods, which mean less goes in and less comes out.
Canine Caviar Synergy Vegetable Mix
Along with the Wilderness Grain Free Dinner, we also tried the Synergy Vegetable Mix. Doesn’t those veggies look good? Just check out these ingredients! How much healthier can you get?! The Synergy Vegetable Mix includes: Organic Dehydrated Green Garden Peas, Dehydrated Carrots, Dehydrated Sweet Potato, Dehydrated Green / Red Pepper, Dehydrated Pumpkin, Dehydrated Celery, Dried Tomato, Dehydrated Zucchini, Dehydrated Broccoli, Dehydrated Apple, Dehydrated Cranberry, Dehydrated Garlic, Dehydrated Parsley, Dehydrated Beet.
To serve, you just follow the chart on the bag for the size dog. For Sallie, this means 1/2 cup of the Synergy Vegetable Mix and one cup water. (I serve half of this with her morning meal and the other half with her night time meal). Stir and let the vegetables absorb the water. I do this approximately 30 minutes before feeding time. It smells amazing – like real human food! Then, I mix it with the Wilderness Grain Free Dinner kibble to make her meal even more nutritious! You can also mix ahead of time and store in the refrigerator.
Canine Caviar Holistic Treats and Buffalo Treats
Sallie has also been enjoying three different varieties of treats including Canine Caviar’s Buffalo Stix and Buffalo Jerky Flat. Their Buffalo treats are made from free range grass fed buffalo and are hormone and antibiotic free. The Dried Sweet Potato treats are made from 100% natural sweet potatoes grown in the USA!
Chow time! Sallie is LOVING the Canine Caviar Wilderness Grain Free Dinner and the Synergy Vegetable Mix. From the very first night, she has had a good appetite, ate her meal and had no trouble with the switch. As a matter of fact, her stomach troubles has really quietened down! You can also bet she loves her new treats! No objections from her there either!
I wanted to take a moment and show you the changes I have been seeing in her skin since starting the grain-free diet.
Sallie has some very itchy and oozing skin irritations. These have been going on for a while now. We no sooner get them well and more will come in their place. When in full blown allergy attack, they are horrible! It has been an ever present and an on going problem with her no matter what we have done. It is one of the main reasons I wanted to try a grain-free diet for her. A few weeks into switching to the Canine Caviar Wilderness Grain Free ALS Dinner, you can see hair is growing back. By the third picture, the hair is thin but filling in. She still has a few spots and a bit of flakey skin, but I am hoping with continued use we see continued improvement in her skin problems.
In my opinion, what has helped Sallie the most with the skin issues is the change to a grain-free diet. We are also pleased with the gluten free, as it has helped with her digestion and stomach trouble. Her eyes are bright, her energy level is up and she is getting her shine back. As of now, we are definitely believers in grain and gluten free! We are also happy to have found Canine Caviar, which has holistic, natural and nutritious ingredients we can trust!
Canine Caviar has all the nutritional and healthy ingredients, without added chemicals and fillers, that I am looking for in a dog food. We spend our time taking care of ourselves, eating organic, cutting out chemicals and artificial ingredients – why not our pets? They are a part of our family too and deserve the best! We want them to be healthy and live a long happy life! We are happy that we have made the switch to a grain free diet and we are even happier that we found a holistic dog food we can trust in Canine Caviar – no fluff, no fillers, just nutritious quality ingredients!
My dog has food allergies and I have her on grain free food, but this sounds even better than what she is eating! I am definitely going to check it out. ANYTHING for my baby!!!!
WOW! I am so surprised that she ate it with no problems being it was way different to what she was used to eating! My little girls are very picky eaters! I’d put that in front of them and their noses would go up in the air, look at us, and walk away! I’m so glad that this CanineCaviar Holistic Grain Free Dog Food has worked so well with Sallie! She looks like she feels so much better. I hope she didn’t have the “runs/poops” from it being different. Thanks so much for you and Molly’s review of this Canine Caviar! I truly do appreciate it! Thanks again, Michele 🙂
she loved it! I guess it is the all meat and the veggies, but she chows down. No runs 🙂 Actually, the opposite. Since it is mostly all used up in their system, their poop becomes smaller.
Wow !!!! Totally need to give it a try ;-D !!!! My Swisher Sweets is 7 years old in human years and i totally want him to be around for as long as possible …. He’s my first baby ♡ thanks for this great info ♡
This sounds so good for your dog can I get this at walmart?
My daughter wishes for a dog pet ever since. But, we cannot find a way to own one. Most of our weekday time is at school and at work the dog will be left alone.I hope Sallie’s skin irritation heals soon.
What a really awesome company to make these products for our furry friends! It sounds like the natural food is working wonders!
what a cute puppy!!
This dog food looks amazing! I would love to use it for my pets, I have one that is an itchy girl.
My baby has some bad allergies too, the scratching the chewing
I have considered it but haven’t tried it yet.
glad its working for her!! shes such a cutie!
Wow, it actually looks like real food! If I had a dog, I’d be looking into this, but I’ll let my daughter know about it, she has 3 adorable pups!
I BELIEVE IN HOLISTIC FOODS FOR PETS TOO. MANUFACTURED PET FOOD IS TOO JUNKY
I have a yorkie that is so picky she barely eats and a lab that is allergic to so many food it is hard for me to find food that works for both of them.
Glad there is a healthy dog food out there for all dogs.
I love your dog and think your dog eats better then me . I hop some day I will be able to have a dog again (miss having one) I live in a apt no pets allowed 🙁
I don’t have a good !!
Great pics. 🙂 I don’t have any animals at this time but I think your post is great and I’m happy to hear and see poor Sallie is healing and feeling better. I would definitely go this way if I had a dog right now. Thanks for the post.

I’m lucky my dog does not have much problem with food.
My dear Nova had cancer and we had to put her down three months ago. We are thinking of getting another dog at the rescue center. This food sounds like it would be very healthy for pets.
No I have not
Thanks so much for sharing this post! I have a dog named Chewey, who we rescued about 4 years ago. He will scratch himself bald at times…. especially now going into the winter months and I had no idea that the food could be a culprit. My mother in law thought he had fleas.. which he did not…. so this is perfect and I will be checking this out for sure! Thanks again and you are awesome!
Wow thats great news! I really want to start giving my dog healthier food, she too has itchy dry skin. I will def consider this brand.
That’s awesome! Glad she found a food that healed up her skin problems! So cool.
If I had a dog (my husband is allergic) I would love to get this food for them. I had a dog growing up and enjoyed it but because of allergies not able to.
This sounds so much healthier for our dog. She does not really like dry food so I try to wet it down some to make it moist. This just sounds so much better for her. Thanks for sharing such great product/products with us all Your review as made me want to look into this for our dog no dry and healthier
this is a great product for anyone who has a dog, I think if we humans can eat good why not our pets after all they are a huge part of some of our lives 😉 and I liked that you added some vegetables with it.. Although I do want to say one thing because I babysit for a few dogs that I know the parents want nothing but healthy dogs but often they think that healthy food is not fattening .. I disagree, I have seen a few dogs who eat healthy good but tend to be over weight, not saying that the food is not healthy , but the parents think that because of the food being healthy that they have a right to feed them more .. not so good 🙂 I also want to say that I can see how nice your dog skin is, its always important to check there health as we would do our own….. just my opinion..
my 1 dog is older so i am always tring to find good dog food to keep them healthy thanks for sharing
What a beautiful dog!
I’m considering switching my boy to a grain free diet as well. It just doesn’t make much sense for a dog to eat grains.. yet many of the cheaper dog foods have a grain as the first ingredient!
Sallie looks awesome now, I am glad you found goodies and food for her.
It’s nice that you love and take care of your pets. So many people neglect them. I personally don’t have the personality to care for an animal. But, at least I know it and won’t bring one into the home.
We have 3 dogs, and they all have different needs. I like giving them something that is healthy! This sounds great.
Very interesting article! It actually makes me wonder about the cat food I feed both of my cats. I notice that both of them have skin irritation fairly often and the oldest one has digestive issues pretty frequently. I wonder if they would benefit from a grain-free diet?
Sallie has suffered with skin issue for a long while. This is the first improvement that I have seen without more cropping up! I only wish I had made the switch long before now!
HI Miss. Molly you so cute Happy Thanksgiving
I used to work at an organic store, and it was incredible to hear the differences REAL pet food made in a dog/cat!
We’re very lucky none of our 7 Pomeranians have issues needing a special diet. I’m glad you found something that worked!
I wish my yorkie wasn’t so picky, I think she would LOVE this stuff!! Kinda like a kid, she will NOT try anything new!!!
This looks AMAZING! I’m always looking for a better food option for my Isabella-butt!
Wow, and I th gluten free was just for people. I heard gluten free is really good for you! I will pass this info on to my mother, she has 5 dogs!
Love that it’s grain free, glutton free for those dogs who have sensitivities. We forget sometimes that they may have allergies too.
So 2 days ago I was here and said I was going to check out this food for my dog, and I did. I went to the Canine Caviar site and was disappointed that it is not something that I could try for my dog. First my dog has pancreatitis so there is too much fat in most of it for her. The one that she might be able to try when she is not having a flare up has chicken in it and she is allergic to chicken…she gets open sores on her face from eating chicken. She also has environmental allergies so I would not give her this food with the other ingredients in it.. rose hips for one. I’m happy that this worked for Sallie though. I just wanted to let you know I did indeed check it out like I said I was going to. 😉
Oh no! Your poor baby! Pancreatitis and allergies. I hope you find a solution that will work for her. Sending good wishes her way!
Again, I’m directed here to comment lol. My dog can’t have this food, but yes I have thought of it. Glad others have done well with it.
Sorry Tina! We got the loop fixed 🙂
This sounds so good for your dog!!!
