5 Best Pet-Friendly Rugs for a Clean Home

Rugs are a great way to add some warmth and softness to the space, but if you have indoor pets, they will just adore rolling around on your floor coverings. And all that sleeping, chilling, and playing on the carpet will leave some marks. So, if you still want to get a rug for your floors, here are the best pet-friendly rugs to invest in.

Carpet tiles

If you know your pet is a little devil in disguise, try replacing your regular carpets with carpet tiles.

The best thing about these carpets is that if your pet has an accident or a scratching fit that can’t be erased, you can just remove the damaged tile or two and replace them with new tiles.

When ordering your tiled carpet, calculate the number of tiles you need, but get a few extra pieces for these occasions.

Keep them in reserve and when you need them, they will come in super handy.

Patterned rugs

If you’re very picky about what materials get into your home, you can still get a great carpet and share it with your pet.

The best thing you can do is pick a model with a busy and intricate pattern. Why?

Well, even if the material isn’t the most pet-friendly, the patterns will hide various pet damage, scratches, chew marks, and fur.

A great look you can pull off with patterned rugs is that popular chic boho vibe.

Just grab two or three vintage rugs, layer them and you’ll create a pet-friendly yet gorgeous space.

Synthetic rugs

Synthetic rugs are engineered to be able to withstand not only scratching and aggressive playing, but are also stain resistant.

What that means is that if you have a small pup that’s not yet perfectly house-trained, you don’t have to worry about accidents.

Manufacturers like trusted Miss Amara NZ have over 70 pet-friendly synthetic rugs in their stores. You can choose something that will fit your home size-, pattern- and color-wise.

Just keep in mind when buying your synthetic rugs that even though they are pet-friendly, they are not pet-proof!

If an accident happens, your rug will not absorb the liquid if you come to the rescue quickly.

However, the most determined scratchers and chewers will still cause damage.

Outdoor rugs

If you can find a pretty design to fit your interior, feel free to choose an outdoor rug for your living room.

These rugs are made to be very rugged. They can withstand rain, heat, sun, and wind, so they are a match for most pets.

Materials used in outdoor products can be both bleached and scrubbed, so any stain that happens can be removed.

Low-pile carpets

Carpets and area rugs can be made from many different kinds of fibers and it’s very important to choose those that will resist your pet’s paws.

Pay special attention to your rug pile.

Cut piles are much better than loop piles if you have pets. Loops can not only be ripped by your pet, but they can get stuck in their claws and cause discomfort or even injury.

Another thing you should think about is pile height.

A low pile is much easier to clean since it doesn’t trap that much pet hair and dander.

If you or someone from your family suffers from allergies, they will be so thankful for your low-pile carpets.

In case you still choose a high pile, make sure to have it professionally cleaned at least once per year.

Pro tips

No matter what kind of carpet you have, make sure to brush your dog regularly to remove some of the hair before it can reach your floor covering.

For the best results, brush your pet outside.

You should also invest in a high-quality vacuum cleaner designed with pet owners in mind.

A pet-friendly vacuum has stronger suction and will suck up all the hair, dander, and other allergens from your carpets.

And even the best-trained dogs and cats tend to have occasional accidents or run inside with dirty paws.

But, if you have a good spot-cleaner at hand, you can just dump some on the stain, leave, clean and you’ll get to keep your rug instead of tossing it in the dumpster.

If you pick any of these pet-friendly rugs, you’ll get to have a chic, warm, and clean home without too much trouble with cleaning, vacuuming, and perfuming.

Pets and rugs can co-exist if you make the right choice with pet-friendly rugs!

This is such a helpful post, thank you so much for sharing! Their paws really can do some damage to our floors if we are not prepared with the correct flooring.
