Yes, animals can be skittish. I was going to have my cat reply but, mine doesn’t type. I have heard that essential oils can have a calming effect. I’ve never tried them.
What a nice blend of ingredients. It doesn’t surprise me that this would work.
Oh wow aromatherapy for dogs! How come I never thought about that! Putting it on a bandana is such a smart idea!!
gosh I’ll need to try this because my babies have bad separation anxiety issues! I have been bed ridden for so long that now that thank God I’ve felt a bit better, I can leave the house but can’t leave them alone without them freaking out! hopefully this stuff helps!
I wonder if there’s anything like this for cats.
This calming spray for dogs sounds amazing! đ I love all things that you can make yourself, that way you know exactly what’s in it! Thanks for sharing.
I’ve gotta try this for my oldest dog. When it storms he runs around the house barking like crazy. The the next day he can barely walk. He needs something that will help him relax but with his age I’ve been scared to try oral meds. I’ll will give this a try.
Both of my dogs are terrified of loud noises in general, they shake like crazy during storms. I’m going to mix some of this up asap!
this is a nice idea. i like using essential oils, my dog breeder turned me on to several that she uses. she has even made up potions for me for calming, pain, and after surgery for my dogs.
My aunt had one of those little taco bell dogs. It was nuts, a tiny barking, biting nut. She could have used this.
Good for Furbabies that don’t like thunderstorms, vacuum cleaners or washing machines! I know a few! *LOL* I’ve read that rose oil, scent, extract etc is good for animals who’ve been through trauma. Thanks for the recipe!
Nice to know there is a spray you can make yourself to help out your pups I know mine would love it to keep calm.
Good warning to only apply it to bandana and bedding NOT on the dog.
We have herbal calming collars for the dogs that seem to help, at least some. We try to use only all natural solutions as well. The collars will only last so long, so I love the idea of something I can make myself at home. I just have one concern though – Luke tends to chew on his bandanas sometimes – do you think that would be a concern? Do you think it would work as well to just spray it on a collar?
I would think you could spray it on the collar. As long as it will hold the aroma it should work đ
Poor pups. My Bear Cat is terrified of everything. Itâs almost absurd ⊠he was homeless for the first 8 months of his life, yet heâs scared of birds and squirrels. His own shadow makes him jump sometimes. We had new neighbors move in a few months ago with a dog and he now spends most of his time under the kitchen table. It upsets me to see him so stressed out â I canât imagine how he must feel if he feels safest sleeping under the table where it canât be comfortable. Iâve tried to be reassuring and loving and NOT react to the neighborâs noise but none of that seems to help. Music and running water seem to help a bit. Itâs been getting progressively worse over the last month ⊠maybe Iâll need to move or try a calming spray so he doesnât feel like heâs always being assaulted by noise.
Oh my goodness! This totally breaks my heart đ I would try the spray and like you said – back ground noise like music and tv helps. Since you do not know his story for the first 8 months of life, if there is no improvement, I would definitely talk to your vet about it. While I do my best to stick with natural methods, sometimes it cannot be helped. I would rather have a comfortable pet ya know?
Love this recipe, we can all use this at times! Thanks for giving a new tool to help our pets. I’m a full time traveler and need to settle my dogs in new situations all the time.
Thank you for posting this – I use some lavendar drops in a bottle that I spray on the couch pillows and pet bedding and I’m always looking for other recipe’s to use with the dogs. Calming is big around here – thanks for this! Pinned!
Im curious what are the side effects?
I love the idea of spraying this on a bandana. Or maybe spritzing a bit on a pet’s favorite pillow?
Thank you so much for this “recipe”! I will definitely be saving it for later. <3
I am loving the idea of aromatherapy for dogs. This calming spray for dogs sounds fantastic!
I like how useful essential oils can be for so many things.
Will this work for cats too? I could put the essential oils on my hands and rub him when the lawn is going to be mowed, or there is a storm, or the worst-when he is going to the vet. Have you tried it on cats? Thanks.
My cat gets scared of a lot of things, sometimes for no reason, wonder if there’s a calm spray for cats.
I have to try this. I have a pug/toy poodle mix that gets so anxious esp during thunder storms.
My little boy gets freaked out easily. If you think about it, this actually makes sense. Putting it on a bandana is a great idea, assuming that putting a bandana on doesn’t frighten your dog. I can’t get any articles of clothing on my boy without him going berserk.
This would be perfect for our dog Nellie! I would love to try this to calm her nerves!
I needed this! My poor sammy gets anxiety so bad when we leave home.
Thanks for sharing this spray with us.
I need to get some essential oil. I notice the dogs getting more excited when we go out of the house and not take them.
