FAQ
Yes, canned salmon is generally safe for cats to eat in moderation. However, it is important to ensure that the canned salmon does not contain any added ingredients such as salt or seasoning that may be harmful to cats.
Stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator, the treats will keep for up to a week.
The best way is to bake what you can safely use in one week. Then, freeze the cat treat dough and take it out and bake it as needed for more delicious treats.

Our kitties play a special part in our lives and it is great to be able to "treat" them now and again.

Homemade Salmon Cat Treats
Ingredients:
6-7 ounces of canned salmon, with the juice
½ cup cornmeal
¼ cup non-fat dry milk
1 egg
1 tablespoon cooking oil
2 tablespoons water
1 cup flour (whole wheat flour or all-purpose)
How to make these tasty kitty cat treats for your feline friend:
Heat oven to 350 F.
Combine all ingredients except the flour and mix well.
Slowly add the flour, stirring well until the dough forms. It is very heavy dough, so you may need to put on gloves and mix it by hand.
Place the dough on a floured surface and knead it a few times.
Flatten the dough and turn it over to coat with flour.
Roll out a little less than ¼-inch thick.
Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into small, kitty-bite-size pieces.
Cutting the dough crisscross works well and gives you small squares.
You can also roll each of those squares into a ball and press them with your finger to make flat, round treats. (Children love to do this.)
Place on ungreased baking sheets and bake for 10-15 minutes.
Watch carefully as they can burn quickly.
If you don't want to bake them all at once, the dough may be wrapped well and frozen.
Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
Makes approximately 500 treats.

Thank you fir this recipe. I just made them. A double batch. My cats sniff them. Not sure yet if it’s a big hit. My dogs sure love them. No reason they can’t eat them. So let you know. My house took on the salmon smell - lit some candles(lol) easy recipe ? I still think these are great for animals because they are homemade. Cats can be funny with new foods so I know they will fall in love with them. It’s like with our children when we try to stop giving them fast food and switch to healthy food. It takes a little time. Thank you again

I don't have any cats but I'd like to try these for my chihuahua. It can be hard finding a good recipe for treats that he will eat. He is happy with store bought treats but I'd live to give him something healthier
