1 egg
⅓ cup peanut butter (chunky or creamy) - please make sure it contains NO xylitol - a sugar substitute
1 cup whole wheat flour
½ cup oats
½ cup mashed banana
Directions:
Preheat oven to 300*F.

Combine all ingredients in your mixing bowl. The order doesn't really matter.
Knead dough until a ball forms. Add a little more flour if the dough is sticky.

Flatten the dough on the counter or cutting board, either with your hands or a rolling pin. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour.
Use some adorable doggie cookie cutters to cut them.
Prepare a cookie sheet by spritzing olive oil on it, or use parchment paper.
Bake at 300*F for about 20 minutes.
This recipe will make a few dozen cookies.
All ingredients are safe for human consumption.
NOTE: Because of the egg, I would not recommend feeding this dough to your pup while it's raw.

Yes, you can, but you will need to adjust the amount. The recipe is very forgiving, and your pups will love them just the same.
Store in an air-tight container on the counter up to 5-7 days. You can also freeze the dough if you do not want to bake them all at once.
+Simple tip for freezing cookie dough- Roll the dough into a tube shape. Freeze and then you can slice off as needed.
I use Minute Oats, but the cookies have a crunchier texture. Rolled oats will give you a more chewy cookie if desired.

Can you freeze these? Or think it will not defrost correctl, like mush.
Molly says
To be honest, I have never tried freezing. I have 7 large dogs here, so they make pretty quick work of them 🙂 If you do give it a try, please let me know how they turn out. I am assuming that the pups probably wouldn't mind though.
Stephanie King says
The ingredients doesnt list flour but the instructions say add more flour?
Molly says
Maybe you missed it? It list 1 cup whole wheat flour 🙂
vonda huddleston says
I am going to try making these with rice, coconut or almond flour and substitute pumpkin for the eggs. My own pups & my pet clients will like these I am sure!
Meghan says
instead of a flour type can I add more oats instead? I have only white flour and would like to make these tonight if possible...
Molly says
I've never tried it that way, but it's worth a try. If you do, let us know how it goes. It would still be very healthy for them!
Melissa says
If you have rolled oats for the recipe anyway, you can use some of the oats and blend them to a powder making oat flour. I had to do that for one of my pup recipes and it worked beautifully!
Shawna says
It works fine with white flour ?
Jennifer Fritcher says
Love this!! Thanks for the recipe!
Meghan says
Oh! I am so making these for some special pups that I give Xmas gifts too!
dalene bohannon says
i made these and my doggies loved them.

My son and daughter in law recently rescued a dog and I am going to surprise them by bringing these treats for her. I do not have a bone mold but I will do the best I can to shape them like a bone.
Cheryl B. says
The dog won't care what the shape is. Use any cookie cutter you want.
Charlotte Fraise says
I just roll them into a small ball and then flatten out, the dogs love them so much and don't care the shape and their mom is too lazy to roll rofl
Johnson says
This is a great recipe and safe for dogs. Thanks for sharing.

I am so excited to make these later today. I used your treats on my website, and I didn't say thatI created these cookies you can check for yourself. And I had the best idea that after I made them like melt some peanut butter, and once the cookies are done, and cooled down, and the peanut butter is all melted I would drizzle the peanut butter on top.
Jennifer says
Extra yummy for the dogs. Lol. I have to try that.
caitlin says
I made these twice. The first time they were a big hit. The second time they turned moldy in less than 10 days. I didn't see the comment about refrigeration or only keeping a few days on the counter. I gave them as a gift in a glass jar. Next time I will try refrigerating.
Audrey says
My dogs absolutely loved these
David Smith says
We're going to have to make some of these for Sparkie. I'm sure he would love them, especially since he thinks he need a treat all of the time.
Sandi donahue says
Recipe that does not have any flour, wheat, white or any other. Ideas?
Karina says
You can always substitute it with coconut flour! I always do that!
Melissa Mathews says
There is a dog treat recipe with just oatmeal, peanut butter and banana. You need 1 1/2 cup Oatmeal, 1 Banana, and 1/2 cup peanut butter. Cook at 350 for 15 minutes.
Bobbi says
Is that just oats or so you need to make oatmeal?
Molly says
It's just the oats. 🙂
Penny Eisenhower says
I use almond, brown flower, rice flower.
STK says
I'm also not using wheat flour, especially with so many healthy alternatives available now.
Grind up enough oats to make a cup of oat flour. Far healthier for dogs. I also added raw, freshly ground flax seed, almond flour, blackstrap molasses, chia seeds, plus raw tahini & raw peanut butter with zero sweetener or sugar, and a little bit of coconut oil. Ended up making my own recipe ?
If your dog is on any supplements for their heart etc, you can also add those. I put in a half cup of ground hawthorn berries (dried berries) for my dog's heart, as well as some fermented turmeric to reduce inflammation throughout his body.
lj says
isn't almond flour bad for dogs as nuts are not good for them?
Molly says
Not all nuts are bad for dogs and even then it is the calorie content 🙂
kyleigh says
Awsome my dog loves these but do u think I could do this without the egg?
Marly says
Eggs are really good for dogs as long as they're cooked.
Hazel says
You can sub egg with more mashed banana. But i dont know/count the nutrient value.... eggs are good.
Sonja says
Our new puppy arrives on Wednesday and I love the fresh and preservative free ingredients. Have you tried this by substituting the whole wheat flour for more oats and/or coconut flour or have you added sweet potato?
Nicole says
How do you store these? What is their shelf life? Great recipe!
Molly says
I've never had to store for very long 🙂 They will last a few days in a canister on the counter or you can refrigerate. Because of the egg, I wouldn't store for very long periods though.
Debbie JE says
I double the recipe. After they have been baked and cooled completely, I divide them up into baggies and freeze them. This way they do not go moldy.
I have been making these for 4 months now and my dog loves them.
Carlyn says
That’s what I did!
Elizabeth says
I've made these a few times now, always sure to use the correct peanut butter for one thing. I've also used both white flour & almond flour, both seem to work just fine. I adjusted my baking time to 17 min., the bottoms didn't brown as much. I think next I'll try some experimenting on my own but this is a great recipe. Also, I freeze them & they keep fine.
