These Apple Ginger Yogurt frozen dog treats are not only a delicious way to cool your pooch down on a hot day but they are also very healthy dog treats.
Besides the calcium and protein that the yogurt provides, the live bacteria it contains aid in digestion just like it does for people for even added health benefits.
Apples give vitamins A, C, and fiber while ginger is good for nausea - but only give to your pup in small doses.
The dash of cinnamon is optional but makes them super tasty!

You don't have to add the honey and your dog will probably still eat it, but they do have a sweet tooth, so it is a nice once-in-a-while treat.
Let me tell you something else friends…
This is such a simple recipe and, of course, I tried them for the sake of quality control and they are AMAZING! 🙂
These homemade treats have just the right amount of sweetness and spice.
If you are really sweet to your pup he MAY let you have some of this healthy treat on a hot Summer day.
Apple Ginger Yogurt Frozen Dog Treats
Ingredients:

1 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 apple
½ tsp. fresh ginger (or grated)
1 Tbsp. honey
Dash of Cinnamon (optional)
Directions:

Peel and finely dice apples. Leaving the skin on provides some extra nutrients, but my picky eaters don't like the texture.

Grate ½ teaspoon ginger into the apples.

In a mixing bowl combine diced apples, ginger, honey, and yogurt until well mixed.

Divide evenly among a regular ice cube tray (it should just fill all the spots) or you can use silicone molds if preferred.
Place in the freezer for at least 2 hours to solidify.
Give your dog 1 or 2 on a hot day to help cool down and give them a bit of a sweet treat.
Other than the Oatmeal, Peanut Butter & Banana Dog Treats Recipe, these Apple Ginger Yogurt treats are my pack's very favorite treat recipe to WOOF for!
FAQ
Yes, ginger is safe for dogs in small doses. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties which may help relieve nausea and digestive issues. However, it's important to not give your pup too much as it can cause an upset stomach or diarrhea.
I like to pop them out of the ice tray and store them in a freezer bag or an airtight container. The frozen treats will keep up to 3 months in the freezer.
No, you don't have to use Greek yogurt. Any plain or unflavored yogurt is fine for these treats. However, Greek yogurt does provide more protein and calcium than regular yogurt.
You don't have to use fresh ginger, but it does offer more flavor and is recommended. Alternatively, you can use ground ginger instead. Just add ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger if you're not using fresh.
