Allergies to pet dander are extremely common, but this doesn’t stop allergy-sufferers from sharing their homes with beloved pets. Fortunately, suffering from an allergy to pet dander does not mean that you can’t own a pet. There are many simple things that you can do to alleviate your allergy symptoms. Check out these 4 ways to deal with dander and stop sneezing around your pet.
Keep Pets Out of Your Bedroom
If you suffer from pet-related allergies, it’s a good idea to have an “allergy free” area of your home. Because you spend so much time in your bedroom, it can be helpful to restrict pet access in this room. Allowing pets into your bed will fill your bedding with dander, causing you to wake up in the morning already suffering from allergy symptoms. Keep your bedroom door closed and wash your bedding frequently. Consider running a high-efficiency air filter in the room, as well as using a hypoallergenic pillow and mattress covers.
Avoid Home Decor that Attracts Dander
Home decor such as curtains, throw pillows, rugs, and carpeted floors attract dust and dander and can cause your allergies to flare up. Consider removing as many of these items from your home as you can. Hardwood floors are a better option for allergy sufferers than wall-to-wall carpet because it is easy to clean thoroughly. If you don’t want to give up your carpet, be sure to book frequent carpet cleaning services. Choose easy-to-clean blinds as window coverings instead of heavy cloth curtains. Frequently clean shelves that hold books or knick-knacks to remove dust and dander, and consider limiting the number of dander-collecting items in your home.
Choose Quality Air Filters
If you have forced heating and air in your home, it is important to use quality filters designed to reduce allergens in the air. Forced air can blow dust and dander around your home if your air filters are dirty. Change your filters frequently so they can keep your air and your home as clean as possible. You can also find allergy-reducing filters for your vacuum cleaner, which can help prevent allergy attacks while vacuuming.
Bathe Your Pet Frequently
Bathing your pet on a weekly basis can greatly reduce the dander levels by washing away old skin cells. Check with your vet for shampoo recommendations. Some shampoos are designed to help remove dander, but you will want to make sure that your soap of choice is safe for your pet.
Having an allergy to pet dander doesn’t have to be the end of your relationship with your pet. Reduce dander in your home and find relief from your allergies by trying these simple suggestions.

Get tested for allergies so you know for sure what's causing your symptoms. Your pet can spread dander all over your place but that may not be the cause of your allergy. People. parakeets, horses…pretty much every animal with feathers or fur has dander
