Possible Reasons Why Your Pet Is Always Sick

If you have pets at home, you likely know all there is to know about them. However, sometimes, these furry friends get a bit under the weather, making you wonder what could be wrong.

According to livescience.com, about 300 cats are infected with rabies annually.

Meanwhile, pethealthnetwork.com says a healthy dog may throw up at most twice a year.

So, if your pets seem unhealthy and in pain all the time, the following could be the cause.

Possible Reasons Why Your Pet Is Always Sick

Anemia or undiagnosed blood disorder

An anemic dog would usually lack the energy to run around or lose appetite for long periods.

If you notice any of these or more, you may want to take your furry friend to the veterinary to run some checks.

Ideally, a healthy dog would have 35% to 55% of its blood made up of red blood cells.

Anything below that could indicate a lack of iron or another undiagnosed blood disorder.

Anemia brings about oxygen shortage in the body, which explains your pet dog’s disinterest in running around or being physically active.

As indicated in the sub-heading, anemia may not be the only reason.

Research shows that some blood disorders may mimic anemia symptoms.

This is why you may be harming your pet if you decide to self-medicate without expert help.

Gastrointestinal diseases

Just like humans, cats and dogs also experience gastrointestinal diseases.

Your pet’s digestive system could be sensitive to certain meals you may be feeding them.

Therefore, you may have to change their diets altogether or seek help from the vet to resolve the situation.

Failure to do this could result in constant vomiting, diarrhea, appetite loss, pain, or total disinterest in any physical activity.

Sometimes, the issue is more than discomfort in the digestive tract.

Years of pet research indicate that ulcers and tumors could present as gastrointestinal diseases.

A cat or dog with this health condition may always appear sickly, lose weight, may refuse petting or human contact in general.

Some dogs may even exhibit signs of anxiety when they experience this.

If your vet approves of it, you can administer cbd oil for dogs to deal with internal inflammations and anxiety issues.

Hidden cardiovascular or pulmonary condition

Cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions in dogs and cats always manifest with weakness, breathing problems, and lethargy.

If you’ve lived with your pets for long, any deviation from the normal is easier to pick on.

However, if you just began to live with your pet, you may pick up on these signs based on prior knowledge of these domestic animals.

A dog struggling to breathe may wheeze, cough, or begin to develop bluish gums.

Others may experience nasal congestion.

In cats, you will notice them panting like a dog that’s just had a good run.

Again, your cat may show signs of flaring nostrils with each breath.

Additionally, a cat struggling to breathe may have both its chest and belly moving simultaneously when trying to breathe.

You are bound to notice something different from normal, and it is advisable to take proactive steps to save your pet.

I always get so worried when my little fur baby is feeling sick. I lost a puppy to parvovirus years ago because I waited too long to take him to the vet so I have been extremely paranoid if I get the slightest inkling my dog is sick now.
