We've all seen em. The waddlin' dog, or the cat that can't jump. Many pet parents think their overweight pets and their 'fluffiness' are adorable. But, lemme tell ya - that fluffiness can lead to some serious health problems for us pets further down the line! That's why it's so important for you humanz with overweight pets to get em back to their perfect weight.

The Struggle is Real Folks! I mean really REAL!
If'n ya don't believe me, just take a gander at this video to see what I'm talkin' 'bout! My, oh my! But, it don't have to be this way! After ya watch it, my Lady wants to share a couple of weight loss success stories from our friends with ya. Then, she has a Giveaway to share with ya too! WOOF!
Here's my Lady to tell ya more and share a couple pet weight loss success stories with ya:
Did you know that more than 50% of pets in the US are overweight? That means that more than half the pet population is not only overweight, but at greater risk for cancer, diabetes, and joint and tendon problems. As a pet parent, that cuteness turns terrifying really quick! If you're like me, and I know you are, you want your pets to live as long and healthy of a life as possible!

Pet weight loss is no easier than it is for us humans to lose weight. To help with pet weight loss of your overweight pets and get them back on track for healthier, longer lives, there is Hill's Science Diet Adult Perfect Weight Formulas! This stuff works! Studies have shown that 70% of the dogs and cats that were fed Perfect Weight pet food lost weight within 10 weeks.
Perfect Weight uses a proprietary blend of natural ingredients, prebiotic fibers, and 100% balanced nutrition together to bring a food that is both great for getting the weight off of our overweight pets and for ensuring their continued good health. Hill's even has toy breed formulas designed to help smaller dogs achieve and maintain a healthy weight!
Overweight Pets and the 10 Week Turnaround
Overweight pets are going to need help getting the weight off. They don't realize that being chunky is terrible for them, so it's up to us pet parents to help them get the weight off.
The Hill's 10 Week Turnaround is a 10 week program designed to help owners get their overweight pets back to their healthy weight. The calendar is an easy way to track what and when you feed your pet, as well as monitor pet weight loss.
I posted some pet weight loss tips in a previous article on how to help get overweight pets back into shape, but I'll give another brief overview.
- Consistency: Set a food schedule and stick to it so your pet doesn't ask for food constantly.
- Measure: Always measure out the exact amount of food for your pet.
- Feeding Guidelines: Start your overweight pets out on the recommended amount of food on the bag, and adjust the amount according to your pets' needs.
- It's a Marathon, Not a Sprint: Remember, it took your overweight pets a long time to get where they are. It will take them a long time to get back to an ideal weight.

Hill’s Perfect Weight food is something that everyone should be feeding their pet.

People need to pay as much attention to the diet and exercise of their pets as they pay to their own, maybe more.
Molly says
I agree! They are part of the family just like your kids. To keep them healthy, you must start with diet and exercise then add in a big dallop of love! 🙂
Sherrie C. says
Cute doggies 🙂 I have a chunky Pug who could stand to lose a few pounds. I guess we should take the challenge.
M.Clark says
A lot of people are not aware that it is possible for pets to be overweight. These people really need to read this post.

I got this food for my cats and it sure works
Molly says
Wonderful! I am so glad your kitty is a success story!
M.Clark says
People need to be more aware of what and how much they are feeding their pets.
Molly says
Yes ma'am! I was guilty of that for a long time! I didn't measure and would hand out treats left and right. Needless to say where that ended!

We are currently on a weight loss journey with our dog, Mickey. He gained weight over the winter due to overfeeding of table scraps and lack of exercise. Now we have completely eliminated table scraps and we carefully measure out his dog food. He gets half of a cup of dry food (about 170 calories) and one serving of wet dog food (apx. 180 calories) every day. In addition he gets treats several times a day each of which are between 2.5 and 20 calories. He still doesn't get as much exercise as we would like, but we are in the middle of a move currently so hopefully that will pick up once that is over. We made these changes about 2 months ago and he still hasn't lost any weight. We are starting to get discouraged and we don't want to limit his food any more than we already have because we have already lowered it to the low side of the recommended calories for his breed and size. I am encouraged that you said it will take time. I am hoping that is all it is because I feel that we are doing everything right and it stinks that we aren't seeing any results yet. We just want him to be healthy so he can have a long life with us.
Molly says
It sounds like you have a plan and are doing it all just right. Slow and steady is the key. Once you get moved and can add the exercise to your routine, you may be pleasantly surprised at how the pounds start melting off 🙂 Exercise is a big part of it, just like with us humans.

Weight is really an issue with pets. I was told my dog needed to lose 5 pounds a year ago. He's lost 3 which is a lot for a dog. This sounds like a nutritious plan. Thanks!
M.Clark says
Congrats to Keira and Miley for their weight loss success, they look wonderful.
lisa says
I don't see how a dog can get fat in the first place. They eat what they're given. Just don't over feed them.
Molly says
You are correct! It is a people problem. We think the way to their heart is through food. But, we as people, don't realize how the calories convert for our pets. One good sized treat could add up to the calories in a whole cheeseburger! Yikes!
desiree says
bb could lose aobut 10 lbs
M.Clark says
Yes, the struggle is real. We've all seen the fat dogs waddling along and thought how cute they look, but they are really not healthy. Hill's Perfect Weight Food is a definite must for people who want to help their pets lose weight.
