Winter has been colder than usual for us down here in the South. With temps dippin’ down into the single digits, us pups are spendin’ more time layin’ up in the house where it is warm. Don’t get me wrong! When the fun white stuff starts fallin’ from the sky, we love to run and play in the fluffy stuff WOOF! Meanwhile, my Lady can be heard mumblin’ somethin’ ’bout the mess it was gonna make on the floor. I’m not sure why she is worried since she has her magic Spot Shot® Pet Instant Carpet Stain & Odor Eliminator! It’s only one of her secrets for taking care of our messes and carpet stains.
With our large pack, there is always someone makin’ a mess! From muddy paw prints, vomitin’, and of course the accidents, it keeps my Lady hoppin’ WOOF! But, my Lady manages to keep it under control. Lemme fetch her to tell ya her secret tricks!
Here’s my Lady to share a few of her tips for keeping your home clean in Winter with dogs:
If you have furry friends then you know that Winter can bring additional challenges of keeping your home clean. While our dogs are spending more time inside with us soaking up the warmth of the fire, more messes are inevitable. There also comes a time they need to go outside for potty time and exercise. And, it’s no secret that dogs are the worst about tracking snow, mud, and other debris into the home on their paws and fur. Some days, it is almost a good thing to have ice on the ground because at least they won’t track in mud! However, eventually, the ice melts and you are back where you started with the mud.
Grooming
Just because it is winter doesn’t mean you can stop bathing and brushing. Routine bathing should be continued or at the very least a dry shampoo and/or wipes. In addition to their bathing routine, brushing at least 3 times a week is a necessity in keeping the dog hair under control! A good brushing schedule is your number one defense against dog hair in your home!
Stop Mud and Dirt at the Door
Keep a towel at your door to wipe your dog down before entering the home. Towels are my lifesaver! A wet towel helps in removing mud from the feet and belly. A dry towel is great for drying them down and removing any snow or rain.
Door Mats are a Must!
The next line of defense is having a mat both on the outside and on the inside of your house. It may seem over the top to have a doormat outside AND inside, but it gives you much more room to work with before they hit your floor and carpets with their muddy feet!

For hardwood and/or vinyl floors, it is relatively easy to wipe up muddy paw prints but how do you handle mud and stains on your carpet without resorting to scrubbing on your hands and knees? We have Spot Shot in our pantry right now. We love it! It has kept our home’s rugs in pretty good shape! Believe me when I say we have tried a lot of products, short of renting the Rug doctor. There is one other brand that I use and have in my pantry, but I don’t think this is the time or the place to name it.

No furbabys anymore move to a senior apartment and no pets allowed. But I can remember those days and needing something to clean the problem with. I had one dog that when he had to throw up always choose to do it on the carpet. All he had to do was turn his head the other way and do it on the wooden floors.
Thanks
